Pop Culture Wednesday

As per usual, my obsession with film, television, and social media continues.  My weekly wrap-up of films starts now!

How To Train Your Dragon:

I had heard such GREAT things about this movie prior to watching it.  My expectations were obviously set too high.  Maybe you had to see it in 3D.  I don't know.  It felt like every other children's movie I have ever watched, and not even the great early 90s Disney quality.  I could anticipate every action and line throughout the entire thing.  Cute but boring.

I Love You Phillip Morris:

I had NO idea what I was getting into when I sat down to watch this movie.  All I knew was that it was Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor as a delightful gay couple.  Well, it was fantastic.  Since much of the film takes place in jail, it can be quite graphic (so prior warning!).  The fact that it is based on a true story makes it even better.  I wish I even had the capacity to be as audacious as Jim Carrey's character!!

Best In Show:

Again, a movie where I expected more entertainment than I actually received.  The jokes were funny, in the dry British humor way (usually my favorite form!).  I know that there are people who take their dogs this seriously.  I just could not suspend my belief long enough for these highly unlikeable, neurotic individuals and their competition panic to bother to laugh.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo:

I have ONLY good things to say about this film.  It was sharp, gritty, stylish, sexy, and completely captivating.  I know they are Americanizing it, but I swear - you can't get better than this.  I know some people aren't a big fan of subtitles, but you get so wrapped into this film that you can't tear your eyes away.  Seriously, one of the best films I have watched in the last couple of years!!

Tell me everyone - what should I be watching and listening to these days??!

xoxo,
Annie

Over the weekend we watched "Sherlock Holmes". I probably made it half way through, got bored and went in the basement to fold laundry. The only thing worth anything in the movie was Robert Downey Jr. Nice to look at but I didn't like the movie at all. I seem to be the minority though.
