Pop Culture Wednesday

My brain has been on vacation this week, but I still managed to get a few movie viewings in!

HAIRSPRAY:

It would be damn near impossible to say that there is anything wrong with this film.  It is just as good every single time I watch it!  Catchy songs, amazing dancing, great story - the only thing that put a dent in the whole affair was my later knowledge of the lead actress getting an assault charge with another female in an airport.

HARD CANDY:

I had sort of heard about this film before, when all the buzz was surrounding Ellen Page for her role in Juno.  I decided to watch this the other day, based purely on her star power name.  She's fantastic, but this is a DARK movie.  Do not approach unless watching pedophiles getting expertly tortured, from a young assaulted girl no less, is your cup of tea.

MAGNOLIA:

I had been putting off watching this movie for...at least the last 5 years!  I think it was my fear of the length.  I mean over 3 hours!  Aimee Mann actually steals this movie with her hauntingly perfect soundtrack.  A huge cast is involved and there really aren't any weak links.  It is so hauntingly poetic.  Mmm.  I will be watching this again :).

What have you been watching this week?  Anything you recommend?

xoxo,
Annie

From what I remember I loved hairspray, but I REALLY loved Hard Candy. But I guess I'm crazy like that ;) hahaha.

My Mom bought Avatar a few weeks ago and I have yet to watch it. I may watch it one night while I'm resting in bed. =)

I loved Hairspray too. So catchy.

I watched about a gazillion movies on planes these past 2 weeks; Valentine's Day (not as good as I'd hoped, but still solid), Dear John (better than I thought), The Young Victoria (loved it, wished they had done her whole life)...that's all I can remember.

I'm finally going to watch The Time Traveler's Wife tomorrow - very excited for that.
