Pop Culture Wednesday

I have been binging on movies and television and books this week, as after the craziness of moving - I've been spending a TON of time in bed!  Can anyone say exercise hangover??  The joys of having CFIDS and Fibromyalgia!

Misery:

I really, really, REALLY enjoyed this movie.  Kathy Bates has the ability to be creepy as all miserable hell!  I can honestly say that I have NEVER read a Stephen King book, and movies like this make me think that I should definitely change that situation!.  This is classic psychological horror, without gore, and easily can make my top 20 favorite horror films!  I could actually imagine this happening in real life, and that is the scariest part.

Grey's Anatomy:

I stopped watching Grey's Anatomy somewhere around the 3rd season.  It had become too melodramatic, and I was bored of the stories.  I heard from so many people that the 6th season finale was AMAZING, so I had to check it out.  Those two shooter episodes had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, even though I was no longer close to the characters.  I have been watching every episode since, and I'm back to really enjoying it!

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time:

This was a neat little novel!  I could relate far too much to the protagonist, who couldn't understand why he couldn't continue his search into who killed the neighborhood dog!  His autism makes it hard for his family to care for him, and as he searches for answers, he finds more than he ever thought possible.  This of course shatters his very feeling of safety.  Definitely worth a read for anyone interested in autism!

Beaches:

I can't believe it had taken me this long to see this movie!  A beautiful story about a life-long friendship.  The best thing about this movie was that it was honest, portraying both women as having talents and flaws, and allowing them to fight throughout numerous years of the story.  It's exhausting emotionally though, so I'll only recommend it if you have a big box of tissues!

What do you recommend this week?  How about some great 80s movie suggestions?

xoxo,
Annie

I only watched on movie this week but I highly recomend it, The Imaginarium of Dr Pernassus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Imaginarium_of_Doctor_Parnassus
I am actually going to watch it again since I was quite muzzy headed and missed a few parts the first time around.

I've been busy reading Craig Ferguson's autobiography American on Purpose. Facinating read. I can't believe that he is funny enough to make you laugh even when he is dealing with the nasty side of drug and alcohol addiction.

For TV I've started watching X Files again. When this originally aired I didn't watch it until it had aired for several seasons so I never saw it end to end. Now that it just got uploaded onto Netflix I started watching it from the first episode. I had forgotten how good this show is.

I remember doing a "series marathon" watching "Charmed"! Hehehehe

Then again, I can't really concentrate when I am unwell ... I fall asleep in front of the TV.
Like my hubby say, "Hey, TV's watching u!"

Take care and Have a great Wednesday!

I agree on Misery and Beaches!! Great movies. I am a Grey's Anatomy freak, and tape it if I'm maybe going to miss it. I haven't been able to relax enough to read for a long time. Maybe I just need the right book.

Misery is one of my all time favorite movies! Have you read the book? It's even better than the movie.

Now that you've watched Beaches if you still need a cry try Steel Magnolias, Terms of Endearment or Top Gun. If you need a laugh... Weird, Science, Real Genius, Sixteen Candles and of course The Breakfast Club! One more... ever see Night of the Coment? One of my favorite cheesy movies ever !! :)

I read that book recently, too. I liked it for the most part, but the "normal" people were all kind of horrible and depressing, I thought.
